“Time's Picks - the best of this week's entertainment -
. . . Speaking of incoming bands, who knew the bayous went
all the way up to Minnesota. The New Riverside Ramblers hail from St. Paul, but
play that Cajun music as if they grew up on the prairie. For the past 15 years
they have cultivated their sound with a little help from Dewey Balfa, Steve Riley,
Marc and Ann Savoy, DL Menard, Eddie LeJeune, Calvin Carriere, Lionel LeLeux and others. Called the best Cajun band outside of Louisiana . . .

“. . . Out of the ashes rose the phoenix-like New Riverside Ramblers,
a former trio who became a quintet with the addition of the Bone Tones' rhythm
section. Although they naturally draw comparisons with the Tones, on their own
they have plenty of dip, rip, and zip, as evidenced by their delectable debut,
Saute La Barrière. Relentless beat heater Paul Loughridge never overplays,
but always manages to dish up the right effect to keep the juices boiling.
Bassist Doug Lohman also keeps the press on, either by supplying the
traditional walking variety or just pulsing undercurrent that gives the
proceedings its zesty drive.
Three selections find Loughridge doing fiddlesticks
(a disciplined timing technique) with the expressive fiddler Eric Mohring.
On "Creole Stomp/J'etais Au Bal" accordionist Robert Nelson cleverly
modulates keys three times for an insatiable thrusting effect that makes
Cajun music so great when it's play so right.

“The NEW RIVERSIDE RAMBLERS is one of the
best traditional Cajun music bands outside of Louisiana. Perhaps one of
the best traditional Cajun music bands in Cajun music today....If I did not
know better, I would think they were from Kaplan and Mamou!

Pete Bergeron, KRVS radio,
Lafayette, Louisiana.
“The New Riverside Ramblers entertained for three days at the
Heritage Square Stage doing nine shows for the delight of the always packed houses.
Their style is highly traditional and Eric Mohring on fiddle and vocals makes you
feel as if you were in an old time Cajun dance hall -- slightly back in the bayou.

“The overall band sound is great, with good time. Kudos on the
fiddling and on Bob's smooth très effective button bounces - some of the
best.”-
Tracy Schwarz, Cox's Mill, West Virginia.
“I'd gladly hitch-hike to Minneapolis to play with Doug and Paul.”-
Marc Savoy, Eunice, Louisiana.
“I just listened to Jump the Fence...you guys sound great on there!!
I gotta tell ya......the Reprise of Saute just knocked me out......totally
AWESOME!!!!” - Al Berard, Cecelia, Louisiana
