“. . . Out of the ashes rose the phoenix-like New Riverside Ramblers, a former trio who became a quintet with the addition of the Bone Tones' rhythm section. Although they naturally draw comparisons with the Tones, on their own they have plenty of dip, rip, and zip, as evidenced by their delectable debut, Saute La Barrière. Relentless beat heater Paul Loughridge never overplays, but always manages to dish up the right effect to keep the juices boiling. Bassist Doug Lohman also keeps the press on, either by supplying the traditional walking variety or just pulsing undercurrent that gives the proceedings its zesty drive. Three selections find Loughridge doing fiddlesticks (a disciplined timing technique) with the expressive fiddler Eric Mohring.
